MULTI AWARD-WINNING IRISH DARK COMEDY EAMON TO OPEN AT CINEMAS NATIONWIDE ON FEB 12TH FOLLOWING LIMITED DUBLIN RELEASE
Margaret Corkery’s multi-award winning Eamon will expand to a number of cinemas countrywide on Friday February 12th following a limited engagement at the IFI in Dublin from Friday February 5th. The film will expand from February 12th at: Cineworld Dublin, Light House Cinema, Movies@Dundrum, Swan Cinemas Rathmines, and various regional cinemas across the country. The release continues the commitment of the Irish Film Board to promoting the best in Irish film, and facilitating and growing audiences nationwide for indigenous film production.
Eamon has picked up numerous awards at festivals worldwide including the Best Film award in the Forum of Independents at the renowned Karlovy Vary Film Festival, and is also nominated for three IFTAs, including Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Actress. The film continues to screen at festivals across Europe and beyond to much audience acclaim. Written and directed by Margaret Corkery, Eamon is a quirky and unconventional tale of a doomed family holiday in Ireland. The title character is a quietly disturbed six-year old (a striking and memorable debut from Robert Donnelly), on a disastrous “staycation” with his narcissistic mother Grace (IFTA award nominated Amy Kirwan), and his dead-beat father Daniel (Darren Healy).
Eamon's monopoly on his mother's affections rule out any revival of fortunes for Daniel - the sexually frustrated spare tyre in the trio. In the meantime Amy only has eyes for a Daniel Craig-like vision of masculinity in Speedos on the local beach. Corkery's stylishly assured writing and direction lies the groundwork for the ensuing debacle; a train of events set off by Amy and Daniel's wandering eyes and hyperactive Eamon's consumption of just one glass of coca cola...
Director Margaret Corkery, a Cork native, commented “Having toured festivals around the world with the film and seen the reactions of international audiences, we’re so happy to have the film released on home turf. We’re really looking forward to the release around the country, and hope to be in a position to attend screenings at several locations to conduct q&a sessions.”
The film was produced by Seamus Byrne for Zanita Films under the CatalystProject scheme. The scheme was devised by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, Screen Training Ireland, Filmbase, The Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, TV3 and The Arts Council to mentor filmmakers in the art of low-budget filmmaking and fund successful participants to produce a feature film. The film is provisionally scheduled for a DVD release in May 2010. The film has a 15a certificate.
